What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine sterile needles into specific points on the body. It is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The purpose of acupuncture in terms of modern medicine is to stimulate the nervous system, which results in an increase of endorphins (feel-good hormones and natural pain-killers).

What is acupuncture used for?

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends acupuncture for tension headaches and migraines. More recently, NICE have recommended acupuncture for managing chronic primary pain (headaches, musculoskeletal pain, fibromyalgia, etc) over commonly used painkillers. Traditionally, acupuncture has been used to treat a wide variety of health problems and to maintain a sense of wellbeing.

What is mobile acupuncture?

Mobile acupuncture is an excellent option for busy people, or those who can’t easily leave the house because the practitioner comes to you. They will bring all the equipment needed to carry out a typical acupuncture session, in the comfort of your own home.

Your practitioner will bring all the necessary equipment, we just ask you to prepare for your session by clearing a treatment space and opening a window. You’ll need a pillow and blanket to lie on once the bed is set up. Before we start, we’ll have a chat about what you need help with, and your medical background, you can ask any questions you might have. The needles will stay in for around 20-30 minutes. After the session, you might feel a bit drowsy or just very relaxed! Take it easy after your session. Rarely, there might be some soreness or bruising where the needles have been, but this should ease within a couple of days.
