A timeless visual confirmation of physical fitness is the classic six pack. A goal that many strive towards, many people believe that performing hundreds of crunch/sit up variations which mainly target the front and central abs (rectus abdominis), are all that is required. This is not so, the abdominal's are a group of muscles, crunch/sit up exercises are not enough to achieve a developed abdominals and great core strength.
In order to achieve great abs & core strength you will need to incorporate exercises in different planes of motion that hit them from a variety of angles. In our Synergy sessions we often include exercises that do just this, such a 'The Wood Chop' demonstrated in the video below by one of our clients. This is a great exercise that will target the lesser worked abs in your training.
The well known and sometimes quite unpopular plank exercise variations are great for hitting the transverse ab muscles which are essential for developing a strong core, a strength that is vital to achieving many of our clients athletic and sporting goals.
